Start With Lighting if You Are Looking to Green Your Home

Posted by admin

Been doing some thinking about living greener as a New Year’s resolution, then start with some simple things around your home. This is as easy as it gets, will end up saving you money, and is definitely green. Change out regular light bulbs in your lamps, and other light fixtures. Insert energy star-rated CFL bulbs in their place. Many will use seventy-five percent less energy, along with lasting ten times longer than the standard one you are replacing. As for being a money saver, over the course of the star rated bulb you will owe thirty bucks less on your energy bill, and that is per bulb!

Once those are in, consider installing dimmer switches throughout the house. In the rooms you use most, if you cut back on the lighting strength you could save up to forty dollars a year on that electricity bill. They are really inexpensive to buy, and a cinch to put in. Not to mention how different the vibe these rooms will have when you can alter the lighting as per mood, or activity. Like I said, this is a great place to start down the road to greening.
