When the topic of Feng Shui comes up, lots of people think of arranging furniture, or choosing the proper colors of household items. While this is a part of it, it is also about making good choices based upon how well an article functions, and what affect it has overall on your space, or the world. Yes, that’s right, eco-friendly prevails when it comes to Feng Shui, makes sense right?

Take the kitchen eco-friendly appliances for instance. Those are a smart choice for several reasons, and as such will have a positive impact on the household and the people who live within it. The use of these is better for the environment, and thus your family, then amp all that good up with the fact that in many instances you will save due to their efficiency.

Just think, about the appliances that conserve water, are simpler to clean, require less electricity, and are made out of more durable, and recyclable materials. You can do good on so many levels, there will probably be some that o unnoticed by you and your fam, but Feng Shui grasps it all.

Now this does not mean gut your kitchen and replace those appliances that are fully functioning. That would be counterproductive, but when the time comes to reinvest, do it with eco-friendly refrigerators, ovens, stoves, washers and dryers. Do what you can when you can, and everyone will reap the benefits.

Ever wondered why it is so important to carefully choose the colour you paint your walls? Or why you feel different in different coloured rooms? Well, Feng Shui does a great job of explaining this, and in directing you to select from the best of shades. Through the art form of Feng Shui you can bring balance, good fortune, and the proper energy to your home or office.

This is a very interesting topic, and deserves a lengthy look if you have the chance to pursue a stronger understanding. Here is a little taste to tempt you to further your studies in this area. Colours either fall under the category of Yin or Yang. Those that are Yin are known to introduce healing and relaxation. Yang colours will motivate and inspire.

For example, purple, a Yin colour, has physical and mental healing abilities. In addition, it is associated with spiritual awareness. While orange is said to promote organisation and concentration. The most wonderful part of injecting both colour and Feng Shui into your world is that you are exploring possibilities, and promoting positive change.

Applying Feng Shui might seem like it would be too technical for your liking. However, if simplified, perhaps you would be more inclined to do so. Well, then hopefully the following information will lead you to create such a balanced living environment. Just remember to think in these terms in each and every room in your home, whether you be selecting furniture for a dining room, or choosing elements of fitted kitchens. Setting up just one harmonious space will not be enough, if those bordering it are out of whack.

In Feng Shui, broadly speaking, there are two types of energy, helpful (sheng chi) and harmful (shar chi). To avoid bringing in shar chi you need to familiarize yourself with where it exists. Today we are discussing one of its sources, the poison arrow. These can bring loss in several aspects of your life if they are not deflected, or eliminated. The impact may arise in the area of health, finance, employment and some others, and they may develop in one member of the household’s world or many. They can come from objects lying outside of the home, and within, but for purposes of this discussion we are concerning ourselves with things inside the house.

One place that these can be found are sharp corners that jut out. As such, you can either forgo putting too many articles in your rooms that have such sharp corners, or you can combat them with items that fend them off. If your design involves such poison arrows, you can diminish their impact by using mirrors, soft objects, or rounded edges in surrounding décor. Do not take this to mean that you should only have materials indoors that are curved, or cushy, that is not how this works. For to have balance you need to have some squared off pieces along with the others. Not to mention decorating without corners would be more than a little difficult. In addition, it should be clarified that sharp corners that are lined up against other sharp corners do not create these arrows. Make note, the corner itself is not what we are opposed to, it is their placement.

Thus, those cabinets you put into your kitchen will not have a negative connotation, in fact they should enhance the space when installed properly. But, you may want to bring in some soft window coverings, or some seat cushions for the kitchen chairs. And the dining room furniture is also easily balanced even if you choose things that are square or rectangle, as you need some corners for balance. Just apply the appropriate other elements to the space to set the flow of energy in the right direction. Now, this should have cleared some things up for you, and established for you that both rounded edges and corners are useful in Feng Shui.

There are ample materials available for you to tap into and identify the precise way to make your bathroom adhere to the principles of Feng Shui. But take note, not everything your read on this subject, as is the case with many topics, are accurate. Stick to articles and tips that claim to harken back to the classic style of Feng Shui. Naturally, as you select your bathroom furnishings you would like to know that you have a handle on what will work well, and what will mess with the flow in this space.

As such, here is one firm and fast rule you can rely upon to aid you in this quest. Avoid green, or more precisely, do not bring in any green tones on your walls. It is ok on your furnishings, because they will not be reflected in the same way in any mirrors in this room. This should not come as too great a blow since this is the sole colour that is not in keeping with the harmony you are seeking in this place.

Another thing to sway you from painting the walls in a green undertone is that just about any lighting will cast it unattractively upon those mirrors also. Thus, the reflection of you, once again in that big mirror over the vanity will not put you in the best image. Lighting is a major factor in any Feng Shui set up, and also in the way it falls upon those within the space, so be cognisant of the kind of light any fixtures you fancy will produce within your bathroom. There are tons of bathroom lighting tips available online, so do not hesitate to look them up too.

There is so much to know when it comes to creating a Feng Shui indoor space. There are details that are very important that can easily go unknown if you are not following a thorough guide, or receiving help from an avid practitioner of the practice.

With this in mind, I thought it would be useful to share the following with you regarding the proper plants to use inside. Take note that you want to incorporate those plants with rounded leaves, and not those with pointy foliage. Those with points will create the antithesis of what you desire, and therefore should be avoided altogether. Though it is a simple matter, it is an influential one that should be abided.

Along with the arrival of the New Year, we all hope and wish for abundance, wealth and health to find us. In Feng Shui, the belief is that by doing certain things within your home you are drawing those things that you desire to you. It comes as no surprise that in order to allow all of the good into the house you need to clear out all the bad from last year. It is advised that you do a deep clean of your home, preferably prior to the arrival of 2011. If you missed that deadline, it is still beneficial to go forward with this cleansing, but it is absolutely critical that you not do it on New Years Day.

Once you have cleaned you home, open your front door and back door to let in the New Year and let out the old. In addition, it is thought that the clanging of pots and pans aid in this process, so go to town and have some fun with this. If you are unable to do a thorough cleaning of your entire house, focus your efforts upon the kitchen, as this is the area in the structure that brings wealth to you.

If you are wondering if the red and green Christmas colours are feng shui for your home, well here is the skinny. Green is an excellent choice and can be used abundantly in your home space. Green is said to promote peace and relaxation, so the mistletoe, Christmas tree, and wreaths are all wonderful additions. However, red falls into the fire element category and can be problematic if overdone. Specifically, it can have a negative impact on your finances. So, use red sparingly, but go to town with the green decorations and clear lights, crystal ornaments and reflective decorative items. These will compliment your environment and give you a mighty nice display too for the whole Christmas and New Years season.

For many of us, the idea of making our homes into more feng shui environments brings forth the vision of organising a skip hire. The concern being that if we do the whole home properly, surely the garage alone will completely fill up an entire skip at least one time. But, this fear is unnecessary, and such dramatic changes need not happen all at once. So begin by taking a deep breath and relax.

Next, start with a plan of attack for just one space. Be certain that whatever source you are using to guide you through the process identifies the zones of the room, and explains the importance of colour and elements. You should also evaluate whether or not it provides a basic, or overtly technical description of what you should do. Because, while you want to get the job done properly, you should start with simple instructions, and build upon those.

The end result is one that you want to enhance your life, and bring you a sense of peace. If you start by getting all worked up over the possibility of being overwhelmed by the size of the job, or confused by the very thing that should aid you then you will never meet the goal. Instead, you just end up with an empty skip.

There is a way to fast track your feng shui application by following five principles. First, you should identify what it is that you want to accomplish. Then, your second step is to clean out anything you no longer use, and declutter what will remain. With your space cleared out you can then eliminate any negative influences and establish positive ones in the third step. Once you have this in place, the fourth step is to research where the power sections for these areas are in the structures layout, and activate them. From this point you will be able to design a pathway for Chi, which is the fifth and final step. There are many websites such as the Feng Shui Society that provide helpful tips on how to apply the five principles to your home and garden. If you are looking for professional help on how to prepare a feng shui space in your home, you can look for qualified joiners to help create smooth surfaces and storage space. There is of course a great deal more that can be conducted in the preparation of a feng shui space, but when you are limited in time and resources the above will do the trick. It is a great way to become acquainted with the art form and experience a new approach to design.

The visually appealing yin and yang image is one that most of us are familiar with today. We know what the symbol is called, but what it means is another story. So, here is the short and sweet of it.

The Taoist tai chi yin and yang symbol represents how the passive energy, dark yin and positive energy, white yang are united within a circle. The picture signifies how nothing in the world is ever completely passive, nor positive. The white within the dark, and the dark within the white represents how there must be a bit of opposite involved in both to give them energy.

A modern interpretation of this is applied to the decoration of homes and offices. In feng shui, the premise is that the home is where we recharge and relax so it should be more yin than yang. The opposite applies to the workspace because it is where we conduct work and need to be energized. Therefore, it should have more yang involved.
