If you are hosting a Halloween party then let this be the special edition. Chances are you will be carving a pumpkin for spooky decorations, or you will be making a dish or two that involves pumpkin. While you are at it why not use a portion of a that tasty orange gourd for a new and creative purpose? One that does not involve baking, or cooking of any kind, sound good? Well then here is your latest and greatest quick addition.

Make it your drink cooler by picking out a good and wide pumpkin and slashing one third off the top. Follow this by removing the seeds and pulp, and then inserting a container to line it. This will ensure that the pumpkin does not get waterlogged once you place ice inside of it. If this is for a kids party, then add Halloween

If you suffer from any kind of aches or pains in your muscles or joints, you may find that sleeping on a standard sprung mattress simply aggravates your condition. Standard sprung mattresses, although perfectly suitable for most people, can worsen some conditions, due to the pressure points they can create throughout your body.

Lying on a sprung mattress, only certain parts of your body are actually resting on the mattress’s surface, so there is additional pressure on them which can cause unnecessary pain. There are, however, several types of mattress that eliminate these pressure points by moulding around the shape of your body. These types of mattress can minimise your pain, so you wake up feeling fresher and ready to face the day.

Memory foam mattresses are one of the most popular types in this category. When you lie down on them, the heat of your body causes the memory foam material to become soft and pliable, moulding itself around your form so that you sink down into it slightly. This distributes your weight evenly so that no one part of your body suffers significant pressure or discomfort. Latex foam is not quite the same as memory foam, but it has similar properties.

Waterbeds are also recommended for people who suffer from aches and pains. Just like foam mattresses, the water mattress allow your body weight to be evenly distributed and eliminates those awful pressure points. All three of these mattresses are also usually hypoallergenic as their materials do not retain dust or dead skin particles.

Even if you don’t already suffer from aches or pains, memory foam mattresses and the others mentioned above have been proven to significantly reduce the risks of one developing conditions such as sciatica and swollen joints if slept upon on a regular basis earlier in life. Check out the full range of matresses from our friends at dreams, not only do they have a fantastic range of beds and mattresses but they also currently have a single bed sale on with some great offers included.

Really and truly there are few words in the English language that have an impact on me like the word cupcake does. Little personalized cakes that are overflowing with beautiful icing of endless colours, simply amazing to both the palate and the vision of the recipient of such a treat. Having made, and eaten a ridiculous amount of these I am always on the lookout for fresh ideas of how to decorate them.

The latest that I have come across are as follows. Insert a couple of yummy Jordan almonds into the icing in lovely pastels for a baby shower, or bridal shower. Use chocolate covered sunflower seeds to create patterns on the top. These are great for kiddie parties as you can spell out the celebrant’s initials. To really change things up place a dollop of Marshmallow Fluff on top and then place on the top rung of the oven for a couple of seconds to get a toasted effect. Obviously these are my first choice for a sleepover.

Pets can often enhance the lives of every member of a family, but when the wrong breed is chosen things can be entirely different. There are numerous breeds that have been recognised as family friendly, and for good reason. Many breeds are known to be great with children, especially if they have been a member of the family since they were puppies and there were children there at the outset.

So, if you and your family are thinking of adding a pet into the mix, consider some of the following strongly. In the smaller dog category, the Beagle breed is popular as a family pet because they are happy go lucky and extremely friendly. The Basset Hound has a gentle disposition and as such is kind with kids. Then there is my personal favourite the Bulldog. They too are tender, but also have a tendency to bond exceptionally well with kids.

As for larger dogs, the Collie can be one of the most devoted to its human family members. I know from personal experience how unbelievably friendly and courageous the Irish Setters can be in a family environment. Both of these breeds are consistent and stable, thus making great life long friends.

If you are interested in making a room look larger then a great way to accomplish just that is to swathe it in white. By making the walls and many of the rooms decorative pieces, and furniture white you make the space appear larger. This is because the eye can travel easily over all of the surfaces that are the same colour.

Another reason a predominantly white room works to make an area feel bigger is that light is free to bounce around with ease, thus producing an airy impression. If you are lucky enough to have a natural source of light in the room then this will really help to achieve the goal.

Naturally, you will want to incorporate an accent colour, and this is the perfect setting for dark framed mirrors, matching dark chairs, or an end table or two to bring the design together. While you may think at first blush that these items would be overbearing, rest assured they will only create a much needed contrast.

All the holiday edition magazines show layouts of elegant dining chairs, tables and decorations that inspire us to replicate the scene. Many of the articles inside give detailed directions on how to copy the look, and even budget alternatives in some instances. These all can lead us to create impressive tables for our holiday guests and family, of which we can be proud.

Still, there are those particular publications that are lead by men and women of superstardom in the homemaking field. They have minions that work day and night to create fantastical displays that could never be accomplished by any single person. This is not to say that you should not aspire to make a smaller version, or a similar presentation.

What is important for us to remember is that we are never going to do the work of fifteen people with art degrees, design experience, and large chunks of time to work solely on the table. Oh yeah, and unlimited budgets too. Just pull out your dinner set and tablecloth and work as diligently as you care to on the centrepiece and name cards, and then step back and admire your own triumph without making any comparisons.

A very nice touch is to line household items with beautiful fabric. It can be used on the back of kitchen cabinets, and their shelves, to line the inside of chests, the back of bookcases, and their shelves, and anywhere else you feel the texture would enhance the article.

All you need is a ruler, a hot glue gun, tacks or a stapler. Oh and of course the delightful fabric, or fabrics you want to use. You can buy fabrics from specialised retailers in your area. In the UK there is a business directory for London to Sheffield to Manchester, making it a really quick process to find localised businesses. Look for heavier fabrics which can be glued and stapled easily. Fold the edges of the fabric under to make the lines nice and crisp, and if there is a pattern involved, line pieces up accordingly. Not only does this make for a nice surprise of whimsy, it can also help you to conceal unsightly blemishes on the items you are covering. Thus making you look creative and crafty.

Mudrooms can be god sends or disaster areas, and you are in control of which they become. Planning is of course essential in this instance of creating such a room, because the choices made can have long lasting impacts. For example, while it might seem light, airy and welcoming to paint this entry room a light colour, think long and hard about this. Point blank, it is called a mudroom for a reason, dirt will be a resident, and you will find yourself hard at work cleaning constantly if you select things that will show every speck.

In the alternative, if you pick things that work with you and not against you, then you will probably be much happier. A great idea that represents this approach is floors made of brick. Not only will the brick be kind to you when dirt is tracked in, but it serves as a lovely continuance of what is going on right outside the door. If you have brick surrounding your house, or incorporated in the exterior itself, then brick floors tie in perfectly.

In sum, make wise choices when building this space that is intended for mess of one kind or another. This is the place that being practical can really pay off.

If you are preparing to entertain someone high profile, or majorly influential in your world, and want to be certain to make a great impression, then consider taking an extreme measure. Think about resorting to ordering from a swanky local restaurant, and adding personal touches to the dishes once you get them home.

At first blush, you may think to yourself that you are perfectly capable of making your own menu and whipping up the appetizers, salads, entrees and deserts. And nobody doubts you. However, personally I would prefer not to run the risk of an unexpected blunder. This is simply insurance for the important dinner.

To ensure that you have your bases covered, because inevitably someone will ask you how you made the items, review a recipe for the selections prior to serving them. Then, if you feel the slightest tinge of guilt, you can make the same meal yourself for your family, or another batch of guests. In the end, everybody wins.

Lighting greatly affects the feeling of a room, and yet it is not often that it is given ample attention in a home. Sure, in general people recognize the substantial impact good lighting has when they witness it in an environment, such as a day spa. Or in converse, the dreadful feeling that harsh lighting can generate, for example in a shopping centre dressing room.

Yet, when it comes to setting the tone in one’s own home, even simple touches of items like dimmer switches are omitted. This is particularly disappointing due to the fact that dimmer switch is a very easy article to install, and ridiculously inexpensive in the scheme of things. As such, I cannot recommend strongly enough that this one small detail be included in each and every home interior design.
