Rules For Creating a Mudroom
Mudrooms can be god sends or disaster areas, and you are in control of which they become. Planning is of course essential in this instance of creating such a room, because the choices made can have long lasting impacts. For example, while it might seem light, airy and welcoming to paint this entry room a light colour, think long and hard about this. Point blank, it is called a mudroom for a reason, dirt will be a resident, and you will find yourself hard at work cleaning constantly if you select things that will show every speck.
In the alternative, if you pick things that work with you and not against you, then you will probably be much happier. A great idea that represents this approach is floors made of brick. Not only will the brick be kind to you when dirt is tracked in, but it serves as a lovely continuance of what is going on right outside the door. If you have brick surrounding your house, or incorporated in the exterior itself, then brick floors tie in perfectly.
In sum, make wise choices when building this space that is intended for mess of one kind or another. This is the place that being practical can really pay off.
